Can surgeons place the Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee using minimally invasive surgery?
The Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee is implanted using existing, clinically successful surgical techniques, including Zimmer’s minimally invasive approaches, which typically offer smaller scars, shorter hospitalization, and quicker recovery.
Will I be able to perform everyday activities after receiving the Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee?
The Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee safely accommodates full range of motion, which means that it moves with you, as far as you are able, from standing to kneeling. Not everyone has high-flexion abilities before or after knee replacement surgery, but when you have a knee replacement that allows for maximum extension and deep knee bending, you have a knee that will not limit your flexibility and can safely move with you, as far as you are able.
How is the Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee implanted in the body?
Three bones make up the knee joint: the end of the thighbone (femur), the top of the shinbone (tibia) and the kneecap (patella). The knee bones are cushioned by cartilage, which can become damaged from injury or wear and tear, allowing the bones to grind against each other, causing pain. In total knee replacement, the damaged portions of the knee bones are removed and the knee is resurfaced with metal and plastic implants. The three differences in shape are addressed in the thighbone portion of the Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee implant.
